The Al Badayer desert — often called the Red Dunes for the deep rust colour the sand takes on at low light — is quietest and coolest in the first two hours after dawn. You get the dunes almost to yourself, temperatures 15–20°C cooler than midday, and light that makes every photo look like it belongs on a travel poster. Tour overview
You'll be paired into a two-seat Can-Am or Polaris RZR buggy (four-seat family buggies available on request) and join a guided convoy of no more than eight vehicles. After a 15-minute safety briefing covering harness fit, hand signals and convoy spacing, we drive out onto the open dune field as first light hits the ridgelines. The middle of the tour includes a stop for photos on a marked ridge, and we're back at base with time for tea before the desert heats up.

Safety
Every buggy is fitted with a roll cage, four-point harness and GPS tracker. Guests are briefed on hand signals, radio channels and convoy spacing before departure, and our lead guide sets the pace of every convoy based on that morning's dune conditions. Helmets and goggles are mandatory and provided. No guest drives unaccompanied, and our guides hold current UAE desert-driving certification.

What to wear
Closed-toe shoes (trainers are fine), light long sleeves or a jacket for the cool morning air, and clothes you don't mind getting sandy. Sunglasses help before helmets go on for the drive. We recommend tying back long hair and leaving valuables in your hotel — bags are securely stored at base camp during the tour.
